STEM 2011
STEM 2011 was inaugurated by Dr. V M Katoch, Secretary to Govt. of India, Department of Health Research & Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research. In his inaugural speech he said that the area of stem cell research and clinical applications is an emerging one and will create lot of opportunities in future, He emphasized the need for organized clinical trials using stem cells.
Dr. B M Gandhi, Former Advisor to Government of India, Dept. of Biotechnology, and currently CEO of Neo Biomed Services, gave the Key Note address on “Trends in Stem cells applications”.
Key speakers included Dr. Aw Tar Choon, Founder and Chief Medical Officer, Stem Life, Malaysia, Dr. Michael D West, CEO, Bio Time Inc., USA, Dr. Alex Esmon, Global Commercial Manager, Thermofisher, USA, Dr. Vivek Tanavde, Principal Investigator, of Bioinformatics Institute, Singapore and Dr.(Prof) Olexander L Kukharchuk, Research Director, Emprocell Clinical Research Pvt. Ltd. The conference covered a range of topics from basic scientific research in adult and embryonic stem cells, clinical application of stem cells, intellectual property and regulatory issues in the stem cell field.
Companies like Sartorius Stedim, Millipore, BD Biosciences, Thermo Scientific, Indus Instruments, International Stemcell Services Ltd., Sri Raghavendra Biotechnologies Pvt. Ltd. and others exhibited their products and explored new business opportunities.
